From Basics to Realistic Portraits

A complete watercolor journey — from mastering brush control to painting realistic, expressive portraits with confidence and creativity.

 Month 1: Watercolor Basics & Foundations

Goal: Build control, confidence, and understanding of watercolor behavior.

Week 1: Getting Started
• Materials, brushes, paper types, and setup
• Water control – flat, graded, and variegated washes

Week 2: Brush & Texture Control
• Brushwork and edge handling (soft, hard, lost-and-found)
• Texture techniques – salt, dry brush, lifting, splatter

Week 3: Value Study
• Monochrome value study – light and shadow with one color
• Glazing and layering for realistic depth

Week 4: Still Life Practice
• Still life in grayscale – object form and lighting
• Still life in color – fruits or ceramics with textures

 Month 2: Portraiture Foundations

Goal: Apply basic techniques to portrait structure and expression.

Week 5: Facial Basics
• Head structure and facial proportions
• Drawing facial features – eyes, nose, lips

Week 6: Light & Expression
• Monochrome portrait study – shaping features with values
• Soft washes for natural skin tones

Week 7: Adding Detail
• Painting hair – texture, shine, and movement
• Wrinkles and older faces – soft realism

Week 8: First Full Portrait
• Step-by-step portrait in watercolor
• Background integration with simplified color

 Month 3: Advanced Realism & Composition

Goal: Combine techniques to create expressive, story-driven portraits.

Week 9: Clothing, Jewelry & Accessories
• Drapery and clothing folds
• Jewelry – metallic shine, gemstones, detailing

Week 10: Color, Mood & Style
• Using limited palettes for harmony and emotion
• Portraits with storytelling and mood

Week 11: Final Project Begins
• Composition planning with reference
• Step-by-step painting with live feedback

Week 12: Final Touches & Presentation
• Detailing: facial focus, edges, storytelling
• Group feedback + how to share/present your artwork

 Course Fee

• ₹5,000 per month (Pay Monthly)
• ₹13,000 Full Course (Save ₹2,000 with one-time payment)

 Materials Required

  • Watercolor tubes or pans (any brand)

  • 300 GSM watercolor paper

  • Round brushes – No. 2, 4, 6

  • Flat brush – 1 or 2 inch

  • Palette

  • Tissue paper, cotton cloth/sponge

  • Water container

  • Masking tape

  • Masking fluid (optional)
